According to the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), by this time, rice production in the 2020-2021 winter-spring crop in the northern provinces is a successful production, achieving both productivity, value and profit. The total cultivated area is estimated at 1,086,000 hectares, decreasing by about 12,000 hectares compared to the previous year's winter-spring crop. The yield of winter-spring rice crop is estimated at 63.6 quintals/ha, an increase of 1.0 quintal/ha compared to the previous year's winter-spring crop. The area of vegetables as of April 15 reached 547,100 hectares, increasing by 20,800 hectares compared to the same period.
In the summer-autumn crop, the 2021 crop, the whole region is expected to plant 1,217,000 ha, the average yield is expected to reach 51.8 quintals/ha, increasing by 0.3 quintals/ha compared to the previous year. In particular, the Department of Crop Production recommends that localities increase the use of extremely short and short-term rice varieties with high yield, quality, good resistance to pests and adverse external conditions, so the structure is from 3 to 4 main rice varieties and 3-4 additional rice varieties. Determining the winter crop as the main production crop, expanding the area if there is a good market, striving to plant about 400,000 hectares, contributing to the growth of the industry in the context of the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Speaking at the conference, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development suggested that the northern provinces and cities continue to accelerate the restructuring of crops and crops; strengthen the application of technical advances; scaling up new and effective planting models; actively follow the field to accurately predict and forecast the situation of pests and diseases to recommend effective control measures, especially black-striped dwarf disease. Strengthening linkages in consumption of crop products and ensuring stable output for farmers. Focus on good management of plant varieties, fertilizers and pesticides in order to reduce input costs for production. Actively apply mechanization of production stages to reduce heavy labor for farmers. The cultivation ensures the structure of varieties and seasons according to the guidance of the professional branch. In the immediate future, focus on speeding up the spring rice harvest under the motto "greener house than old field" in order to limit damage caused by rain and storm; where to harvest to make land there to deploy the production of the summer-autumn crop, the crop according to the seasonal schedule according to the developed plan; At the same time, creating a land fund for winter crop production, especially warm-loving crops. The provinces and cities have plans to regulate and reserve water to ensure sufficient water of good quality to serve the cultivation of crops; have plans to prevent abnormal changes in weather and strengthen the role and operational capacity of agricultural service cooperatives.
