"Elder brother" of the heroic air force

Senior Lieutenant General Dao Dinh Luyen, whose real name is Dao Manh Hung, born on November 5, 1929 in Quynh Hoi Commune (Quynh Phu). He enlisted in 1945 and began fighting in the provinces of Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Hai Phong City as the platoon leader of the 44th Regiment (Inter-Region 3). After that, his unit was sent to the Viet Bac War Base in the formation of the 141st Regiment, the 312th Regiment to protect the Central Government. During the years of resistance war against the French, he and his unit participated in most of the campaigns. In particular, during the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the 141st Regiment, his 312th Regiment had the honor to fight the opening battle of the campaign, completely destroying Him Lam. That day, he was the regiment commander.

After the Dien Bien Phu campaign, in October 1955, Mr. Dao Dinh Luyen was appointed Chief of the 312th Division General Staff, at the age of 26 years old. In February 1956, he took on the task of leading the trainee team to learn how to pilot the first fighter jet in China. On 5/30/1963, 921 Fighter Air Regiment was established, he was appointed as Regimental Commander. After the US imperialists made up the Gulf of Tonkin event, bombed the North, on August 6, 1964, the regiment commander Dao Dinh Luyen led the 921 Regiment to transfer the entire unit to Noi Bai airport. From the first victory on April 3, 1965 and the hundreds of aerial battles against the US air and navy to the Tan Son Nhat bombing on April 28, 1975, he was on the commanding desk with the rle of the "organizer, builder" of the victories of the Vietnam People's Air Force.

Colonel Dao Minh Hung, working at the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center, is the grandson of Senior Lieutenant General Dao Dinh Luyen shared: Senior Lieutenant General Dao Dinh Luyen is one of the great contributors to start the review of tactics and how to fight for the Vietnamese people's air force, dealing with the ever-changing tactics of the US air force. With experience of working and fighting, he trained and fostered generations of mature cadres, many comrades who were kept in high positions of the Party, State and Army.

Also according to Mr. Hung: Although experienced in the positions of service, from Platoon Commander to the first Regiment commander of the 921 Regiment, then the Commander of the Air Corps, the Commander of the Air Force until the General Staff, Chief and Deputy Minister of Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Dao Dinh Luyen has always been a modest, a home general, his name is associated with the growth steps of the Vietnam People's Air Force. Especially, despite being away from home for many years, he was a man who loved the country. When he was still working as well as when he retired, at the end of his life, whenever he came back to visit his hometown, he went around the village to meet elderly people to ask about their  health as well as to meet with commune officials to talk about current events. As his children and grandchildren, we were taught military discipline from an early age. He lived a simple life, often telling us stories of the battlefield.
